My Mortal Kombat 2 review
Intro: OK, Super Mario Galaxy was a misstep; hopefully, this movie will make up for it.
After I saw the movie. So much for seeing a video game movie recession.
Mortal Kombat 2: This movie is centered on Johnny Cage, who is a washed-up actor. One day, he learns that he's chosen to fight in a tournament called Mortal Kombat to protect Earth Realm from Shao Khan. Winning the tournament becomes difficult when Shao Khan is looking for a MacGuffin that will give him an edge in this tournament. So Earth Realm fighters have to find it before he does.
This is one of those movies where the public will enjoy it, but fans won't. I mean, they will not be happy to see how characters are used or not used. Speaking of characters, the movie brought one character back to life, and the reason for it was lame. It's hard to appreciate the stacks in this movie because it doesn't reinforce them. We wouldn't have a subplot of the main villain trying to cheat if the elder Gods had overlooked the tournament like they were supposed to. I appreciate this movie trying to fix the mistakes they made with the last film, but it shouldn't come at the expense of that film. I don't like how this movie got rid of you-know-who, because the writers could have done something with him, despite being disliked. Just like the latest Mario movie, this movie stinks of feminism. ( wink, wink.)
Johnny Cage is the point-of-view character and the character with the most personality.
Baraka is a goofball in this movie, and it gets worse as the film goes on.
Radian is dull and useless in this movie. Seriously, why is he here?
I don't like the direction the movie took with Kitana, because it came at the expense of another character. The writer could have gone in a different direction with her.
Shao Kahn ( the main villain) is a generic bad guy. I don't like that he tried to cheat for video game lore reasons.
I like that this movie gave us the look and feeling of the games. The movie tried to course-correct from the last movie. All in all, this movie failed to make up for the last movie. However, the general public could enjoy this film.
