My Super Mario Galaxy Movie Review
Intro: recapping what I said about the last movie. If the Mario bros are going to save a princess, it should be Rosaline; she's better looking.
After I saw the movie. Darn it!
Super Mario Galaxy Movie: This movie is centered on Princess Peach celebrating her birthday. That celebration is interrupted when she comes across a Luma, who tells her that Princess Rosaline has been kidnapped. Also, the person who kidnapped her is connected to Bowser. So, Preach has to rescue her and figure out if Bowser can be trusted?
This movie is a shameless cash grab. The only thing it has going for it is nostalgia bait. Come on! Having easter eggs and references are a giving, that's not enough to carry a movie. I can see why the movie got bad reviews; however, we shouldn't be that surprised by it. I mean, the Mario games are not known for their stories, so you have little to work with. With that said, that's not an excuse for how this movie turned out. Really, this movie should have been based on Super Mario Sunshine instead of Galaxy.
Speaking of Galaxy, why is Galaxy in the title if the movie spends half of its time in space? The movie set up subplots with characters that have no payoff. I wish the internet hadn't spoiled that "Bleep" was going to make a cameo in this movie. This movie doubles down on the problems I have with the last movie. For example, catering to feminists. I thought I was going to watch the Mario Brothers save a princess, not them being sidelined. It's bad enough they did this to Luigi in the last movie, but both of them really?
I can't comment on Rosaline because she's barely in the movie.
Bowser Jr. is serious and amusing.
The only two things I like about this movie are the humor and the visuals. All in all, this is one of those movies that values style over substance. With that said, I would still recommend this because kids and maybe fans will have fun with it.
